Our Annual State Conference

One of the ways in which the UMADAOPs of Ohio fulfills its mission and purpose is by conducting an annual state conference in selected cities.

UMADAOP's conference has become one of Ohio's most substantial forums on African and Hispanic American substance abuse prevention and self-empowerment. Conference attendance has averaged approximately 500 participants per year for the past several years.

Past conferences have featured some of the country’s most dynamic speakers such as: Lorraine Hale, Thomas “Hollywood” Henderson, Naim Akbar, Leroy Jordan, Tavis Smiley, Reverend Eugene Rivers III, Dr. Julia Hare, Dr. Jose Gutierrez, Ms. Maria Hinjosa, Gwendolyn Goldsby-Grant, Spencer Haywood,
and Rubin “Hurricane” Carter.

Not only have we had magnificent speakers, our conferences have masterfully covered topics such as: Cultural Diversity, Hispanics in Treatment, 21st Century Mentoring, Outcome Evaluation, Health Issues Concerning Men of Color, and Church Roles in Prevention and Treatment. This year’s event is certain to maintain the established level of excellence.
